When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the information on the comment form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and the browser’s user agent string to help identify spam.

An anonymised string (also called a hash) generated from your email address can be sent to Gravatar to see if you are using it. The Gravatar Privacy Policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture will be publicly displayed with your comment.

Media

Suggested text: if you upload images to a website, avoid uploading images that contain embedded location information (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website can download and view the location information of the images.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you can choose to have your name, email address and website saved in cookies. This is for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave a new comment. These cookies are retained for one year.

If you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to see if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie does not contain any personal information and will be deleted when you close your browser.

When you sign in, we also set a number of cookies to store your login information and display preferences. Login cookies are kept for two days and display setting cookies for one year. If you select “Remember me”, your login will be retained for two weeks. If you log out of your account, your login cookies will be deleted.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be stored in your browser. This cookie does not contain any personal information and only shows the postal code of the article you are editing. It expires after one day.

Embedded content from other websites

Suggested text: articles on this site may contain embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites will function as if the visitor had visited that other website.

These websites may collect information about you, use cookies, embed third-party tracking applications and track your interaction with embedded content, including tracking if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long we keep your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata will be kept indefinitely. This allows us to automatically identify and approve subsequent comments instead of keeping them in the moderation queue.

If users register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can view, edit or delete their personal information at any time (except that they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also view and edit this information.

What rights do you have to your data?

Suggested text: if you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request an export file of the personal information we hold about you, including any information you have provided to us. You can also request that we delete any personal information we hold about you. This does not include any information that we are required to retain for administrative, legal or security reasons.

Where your data is sent

Visitors’ comments can be checked through an automated spam detection service.
